So there's been an NFL scouting combine for decades now. But that's just been for the young players; the newbs without any professional experience. There's never been one for the vets that have actual NFL experience, but have been out of the game for a year, two or more. But now, as of the 2015 off season, there will be. The NFL has decided to give free agent veteran players a chance to prove themselves worthy of additional NFL game play to any and every needful team out there. Only problem is, the process might be a bit humiliating.

The players who will be invited to attend the vet combine March 22nd, 2015 in Arizona (approx 1 month after the normal combine) will have to humble themselves and go through much of the same process that a completely unproven talent does. The unproven talents that have zero NFL tape for coaches to watch. The unproven talents that have no resume at all. These vets will have to audition for a chance to play a role they have already played before. That would be like A-list actors having to audition for a part.. You've already seen their performances on the big screen. Must they really go through the process once again like a complete newbie?

The upside to this event for the 100 or so vets being invited is it will give them a chance to prove to teams in need of their services that they still have what it takes to perform, live and in person. Guys leave the game all the time for injuries, or age, or locker room issues. And they just sit at home, hoping their resume and tapes speak for themselves. They wait and wait for a phone call that often never comes.

This combine will give them a chance to show the league they still have what it takes to play the game, right now, at a very high level. Question then becomes, will these vets (who so often have unnecessarily inflated egos) be able to humble themselves back into a process once only fit for the unproven potential newbs? It's a compelling enough question that the league just might decide to air the event for the world to find out, along with the scouts. We shall see.

If curious on who might be invited to this event, while the official list hasn't been announced just yet, here's a link to the Best Available NFL Free Agents - Offense. My guess is that yes, Tebow will be there.
