A blimp conducting advertising overhead at the U.S. Open golf tournament caught fire and crashed into an open field near Erin Hills golf course in Wisconsin. The sole pilot of the blimp was able to eject from the blimp and parachute to the ground. He was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

The USGA released a statement saying that the blimp was not affiliated with the tournament: "A blimp unaffiliated with the #USOpen or @FOXSports has crashed near Erin Hills. Pilot was injured and first responders are on the scene." The blimp was apparently sponsored by PenFed Credit Union.
