The Worst NBA Team vs The Best College Squad

Could the best college basketball squad ever beat the worst NBA team ever, head to head? Heard some radio guys debating this. Their example was the 76ers vs Kentucky. While the 76ers are dreadfully bad this season, and Kentucky is the uncontested #1 team right now, its still a long shot to assume that a handful of professional players (no matter how bad they are versus other professionals) would actually lose to a bunch of college kids.

What do you think? Is there any scenario where you could actually see some kind of match up like this being competitive? Maybe don't even use these teams. Is there any match up in the history of college basketball that you could realistically see beating an NBA team, no matter how bad?

I can totally envision it, but it would be a long shot. Both sides would try their damnedest to beat the other. As much as I would love to see something like this, can't ever see the NBA agreeing to allow something like this happen. Can you imagine the embarrassment it would cause the NBA if a college team beat a professional sports team?!

I think it would be great if that happened. The NBA has become shot after shot. Who can have the fanciest dunk. It would be nice to spark something that would lead to more of an actual game instead of what it has become. Not that this would be the key, but it'd be nice.

I agree. I've actually grown to like NCAA basketball more than the NBA now and it would be a lot of fun to watch something like this happen. I honestly think Kentucky would give more than a few NBA teams a run for their money, let alone the worst team.

I wish we could figure out, but sadly Ithink we will have to think of hypothetical's for the foreseeable future. A cool hypothetical would be placing the '72 or '73 UCLA Bruins versus the '73 Philadelphia 76ers. Americans that year witnessed the best team in NCAA history and the worst team in NBA history. I have a strong feeling UCLA would have fan over the 76ers in that hypothetical match-up.

What would be the potential matchup this year? Kentucky and the Knicks? As good as the Wildcats are, and as gawd awful as the Knicks look, there's just no way the Knicks don't win that game. Zero chance. And that goes to show that no matter how bad an NBA team looks, their always collectively better than any college team out there.

That would be a fantastic game to see. Like watching the Sooners play the Cowboys. During the playoffs : )

Maybe a game that would actually be marketable would be the current college all stars (maybe voted on by the fans like the NBA all stars?) vs the worst NBA team, this year being the lowly Knicks. If you were to take the best 10 college players (5 starters, 5 alts) then that could actually be a legitimate game. Take 10 guys that look destined to be future NBA talents, and square them off against the worst of the NBA. That could actually work. And I could actually see both sports possibly going for it, at least more likely then the first way I suggested.

Would be similar to what colleges already do, when they pit the seniors and underclassmen against each other.
