The Sugar Bowl and the Rose Bowl results are in. As the title of this thread suggests, Ohio State beat Alabama in a shocker at the Sugar Bowl 42-35. And Oregon pulled it out strong in the second half to demolish FSU 59-20 in the Rose Bowl.
So.. #4 vs #2. Suddenly putting in the Buckeyes over Baylor or TCU seemed like the right choice. I do not think either of those teams could have beaten the Crimson Tide. And Oregon handled their business well, as Winston and company straight up folded under the pressure of the spotlight.
As this is the first ever playoff format for college football, we will now have the national championship game with these two victors next week. Obvious question coming: who do you think will win the big one? ... with the momentum of the Heisman winner on Oregon (QB Mariota), I gotta think they have it in the bag. But then again, the Buckeyes looked stout in the Sugar Bowl.
** keep this thread going on through the game to talk about results in the national championship game too **

West coast has this one. Oregon and Mariota have plenty of offensive fire power to get the job done, with a sufficient enough D to keep Ohio State struggling thoughout. My prediction: Oregon 42 - Ohio State 27.

Just occurred to me.. if Ohio State pulls out the win tonight, then the playoff format's first year will prove to be a successful change. #4 winning it all would have never happened in former BCS ranking system. This is why they should extend it to even 6 or 8 games, but I digress.

This is a tough one for me. I live in Oregon now and can't help but get caught up in the excitement about the Ducks, but I'm from Illinois and have been a lifelong Big 10 fan. I'll probably root for the Ducks, but hope that it's not a blow out either way.

BOOM. That wasn't pretty, honestly by either team. But the Buckeyes dominated that 2nd half. Big time. Final score was 42-20. Ohio State is the national champion after all. Like I said before, this proves the change from BCS ranking to playoff format was a great step in the right direction. This cements any doubters. #4 is the national champion, and rightfully and completely fairly so. They beat the #1 and #2 seeds in the country. I'm impressed. And kinda feel sorry for Mariota and the Ducks. But they should have played better. You can't turn the ball over that many times and expect to be champs.
