Odell Beckham Jr VS Josh Norman

Giants reciever Odell Beckham is facing a 1 game suspension, trialing pending as of today, for fighting with Panthers CB Josh Norman during the game in Week 15.

The two were going back and forth, throwing punches, taunting, face masks were involved, and it lasted basically the entire game.. and ultimately what seems to be sending the league over the edge is a helmet to helmet spear headed attack Beckham gave to Norman at the end of a particular play.

Here are all the back and forths ---

It's very hard for me to believe that this was all Beckham, and that he is the only one that deserves a punishment like that. Apparently several Carolina players were trying to get a rise out of the OBJ the whole game (including pre-game). Well, they succeeded.

Beckham shouldn't be so damn emotional and frankly hot headed though. Seems that all players in the league have become acutely aware of Beckham's temper, and how easy it is to get under his skin. He definitely needs to cool down, else maybe the most talented receiver in the game won't last long at all.

What's your take on all this?

He lost the appeal. And I love the guy as a player, but he totally deserved the suspension. Here is his official apology, posted up on the Giants website. Seems quite sincere ---

I owe some people an apology. I wasn’t raised to act like I did the other day. I am not here to make excuses for my conduct. This isn’t about anything that was said or done to me. This is about my behavior, and I am responsible for my behavior. People expect better from me, and I expect better from myself.

First of all, I apologize to the organization I represent, the Giants, and our ownership, John Mara and his family and Steve Tisch and his family. And Jerry Reese, who drafted me and gave me the opportunity to be a part of this organization.

I want to apologize to Giants fans. They want to be proud of us, and proud of players like me who represent their team. What happened the other day was embarrassing to them and embarrassing to me.

A lot of kids look up to me as a role model. That is a responsibility I accept and take seriously. Many of the parents of those kids have asked since Sunday what they should say to their children about my conduct. I don’t have the perfect answer, but I think one thing they can say is how I handled myself the other day is an example of how not to conduct yourself. I displayed poor sportsmanship. And those parents can also say that when you act like that, there are consequences. And I hope to be an example of somebody who did something wrong and learned from it.

I owe Coach Coughlin, our coaches and my teammates an apology. They have had to answer for my actions, and that’s not fair to them. How I conduct myself is my responsibility. I let my coaches and teammates down.

I am blessed and privileged to play the game I love, and I will do all I can to carry myself in a way that honors the game, the NFL, my team, my coaches, all my fans and my family moving forward.

To me, Beckham is good. Great? No. He has made a couple cool catches downfield when they really mattered. But other than that, he is definitely not in my top 5 receivers. I can totally understand the situation between him and Norman. After all, this is football. Tensions get high and these are testosterone filled monsters crashing into each other for hours. I wish NFL was like hockey sometimes. Let them fight and see who wins, then hand out a 2 minute bench penalty to each. Done.

Sorry, but I gotta ask then. IF Beckham isn't in your top 5, then who is?

Since Norman came to Washington, we get to see this matchup twice every year now. :) Check this video out. Getting me excited to watch how it plays out this time around.

Beckham redeemed himself the second time around, I'd say. 7 catches for 121. 2 really big catches on Norman too. This was the best of the game -- Odell's Ridiculous One-Handed Grab & Spinning Stiff Arm on Norman!
