Here's the current count (top 10 countries for gold) --

    United States - 10
    China - 8
    South Korea - 4
    Hungary - 4
    Australia - 4
    Russia - 3
    Italy - 3
    Japan - 3
    France - 2
    Thailand - 2

That's a pretty dominating lead, thanks to gymnastics and swimming from what I can tell, we jumped ahead by a good margin. I know China will be getting at least a few more, from ping pong. But looks like no other country can catch us at this point. Think that's true?

Still have both kinds of volleyball, golf, the martial arts, a gang of track and field, and many other misc events.. so hard to say for sure. I probly speak too soon.. But cool to see we have a commanding lead so far.

We also have the most medals period of any country, by 10 right now.

    United States - 27
    China - 17
    South Korea - 7

The lead has furthered for gold. Quick update:

    USA - 16
    China - 11
    Japan - 7
    Great Britian - 6
    Australia - 5

But China is catching up on total medals..

    USA - 38
    China - 31
    Japan - 22

then Russia has 20, just only 4 golds.

Next up, track and field events. I've been told we should do well there too.

Been a few days, I'll update all:

    USA - 26 gold
    Great Britain - 16 gold
    China - 15 gold

no one else in double digits yet.

As for total count, it's a bit ridiculous for us:

    USA - 70
    China - 46
    GB - 40
    Russia - 32
    Germany - 19
