Ender Inciarte became a first-time All-Star in 2017 for the Braves. He’s now a second-time Gold Glove finalist, looking to repeat as the top defensive center fielder in the National League. Inciarte he’ll be joined by teammate and veteran knuckleballer R.A. Dickey, who’s been nominated for the second time of his career. The finalists for the American and National League were announced Thursday.
The Braves are bringing home a former All-Star second baseman, Brandon Phillips, after acquiring the Atlanta-area native from the Reds in a Sunday trade for two minor league pitchers who weren’t prospects. So eager were the rebuilding Reds to trade Phillips, 35, they agreed to pay $13 million of his $14 million salary in 2017, a person familiar with the situation said.
The youth movement continues. The Atlanta Braves traded starting pitcher Bud Norris to the Los Angeles Dodgers, along with a few other pieces, for two pitching prospects on Thursday afternoon.
Braves outfielder Hector Olivera has been suspended through Aug.
