In our latest Eagles-only mock draft, the Birds go with a safety in the first round and take advantage of a deep draft at receiver. By Andrew Kulp
The Eagles have been losing players at an alarming rate. They’re about to get one back. Linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill said Wednesday he expects to be back for the Eagles’ game a week from Thursday against the Packers at Lambeau Field. Grugier-Hill, who started 10 games last year and was having a tremendous training camp, suffered a left knee sprain while making a tackle on Jordan Howard at practice on Aug. 3.
The 2019 NFL preseason schedule concludes on Thursday night with the Philadelphia Eagles set to face the New York Jets. In order to find some meaning in the most meaningless game the Eagles will play this year, here are the players to watch out for as there are still some roster spots and/or position battles to be won this summer. Keep in mind the Eagles’ starters won’t play at all in this game. This is the annual backup bowl.
Dallas Goedert and Lane Johnson were both absent from practice Saturday and added to the Eagles’ injury report. The injuries aren’t considered serious enough to sideline either player into the regular season, but don’t expect to see either one the rest of the preseason. The Eagles open the regular season on Sept. 8 against the Redskins at the Linc. Saturday’s practice was the Eagles’ first since their preseason opener against the Titans on Thursday night. They finish the preseason with games against the Jaguars Thursday, Ravens on Aug. 22 and Jets on Aug. 29. Here’s the full Saturday morning Eagles injury report:
An in-depth look at the NFC East division as the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins close out their offseason programs.
Pro Football Focus put together a list of the Top-50 players heading into the 2019 season. Two Philadelphia Eagles players made the list.
The Eagles announced several promotions within their front office, including executive VP of football operations Howie Roseman adding general manager to his official title again.
Philadelphia and the quarterback have agreed to a four-year extension that will run through the 2024 season, the team announced Thursday.
The Eagles moved up three spots in the first round and lost a fourth-round pick (127) and a sixth-round pick (167) in the trade. In the fifth round, they moved down four spots to pick up a seventh-rounder but then flipped it for veteran DT Hassan Ridgeway from the Colts.
Nick Foles, who exited the regular-season finale with a rib injury, has been cleared and will start the NFC wild-card game against the Bears, coach Doug Pederson said.
Golden Tate is bringing his show to Philadelphia. The Eagles acquired the 30-year-old wide receiver nicknamed "Showtime" from the Detroit Lions for a 2019 third-round draft pick on Tuesday. Tate has 44 catches for 517 yards and three touchdowns this season.
That Super Bowl the Eagles feted Thursday night set the record for the most combined yardage in history. This game ... did not. Judy Battista goes inside a "special" night in Philadelphia.
Today, the Eagles team that Carson Wentz led most of the season will improbably play the Patriots in Super Bowl LII. A win, of course, will be a milestone. Then on Wednesday, Wentz will have his own milestone. The starting quarterback will begin weight-bearing exercises with his brace unlocked for the first time since being placed on injured reserve, a significant step in his rehab as he tries to recover from a torn ACL and LCL.
The Patriots are favored to beat the Eagles in Super Bowl LII (though the spread has dipped from 5.5 points last week to 4.5 points), and that makes a lot of sense. Before the season even began, the Patriots were favored to win their sixth Super Bowl title, which would tie the Steelers with the most all-time.
It is not hyperbole to say that Nick Foles’s performance Sunday night was one of the greatest at the quarterback position in playoff history. Not just for a backup. Not just recent memory. Anyone, ever. Against the league’s top scoring defense in the regular season, Foles put on a clinic that was unmatched against the Vikings this year. His 92.9 overall grade was, in fact, the third-highest single-game grade we gave out at the quarterback position all year long.
Ezekiel Elliott couldn't carry the Cowboys to a win over the Seahawks in his return. Dallas fell out of playoff contention with the 21-12 loss. But Elliott's return certainly altered the Cowboys' play when they integrated. The star back totaled 118 yards from scrimmage -- 97 rushing, 21 receiving -- despite spending the previous six weeks suspended and away from the team. He rushed for 51 yards in the first quarter alone before receiving fewer carries in the second half.
The MVP candidate is out for the season, forcing Philadelphia to turn to Nick Foles. But the Eagles still have a great shot at securing home-field advantage, and backup quarterbacks have won Super Bowls before.
Philadelphia Eagles star quarterback Carson Wentz has a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the season, coach Doug Pederson confirmed Monday.
Nick Rose, signed to relieve the injured Dustin Hopkins, provided the game’s first points on a 27-yard field goal after Washington’s opening drive bogged down at the Philadelphia 9-yard line. The Redskins ran two plays and gained 37 yards to start the game. Running back Rob Kelley returned to action and took the game’s first handoff six yards up the middle. Then Kirk Cousins found Vernon Davis down the seam for a 31-yard completion. On that play, Philadelphia linebacker Jordan Hicks had to be helped from the field, unable to put any weight on his right foot.
The Eagles will kick off their 2017 preseason in Green Bay against the Packers, return for two at home against the Bills and Dolphins and wrap up the preseason on the road agains the Jets, their normal preseason finale opponent. Here's the full preseason schedule:
