The stage is all set for the women's finals at the French Open. Something that surprised me (as I only pay attention to the tennis world around the end of the major grand slam tournaments) is that Simona Halep is the #1 women's tennis player in the world. I expected a more known name (at least for me) like Sharapova or Williams. But I digress..
#1 Halep will be taking on #10 Sloane Stephens in the Women's singles finals on the 9th of June. Now that I have just learned about Halep being so dominant, I will definitely be tuning in for that match-up.
For the men's singles, we are currently at the semi-finals, with one very familiar name there: Nadal.
Breaks down like this:
M. Cecchinato vs D. Thiem
R. Nadal vs J. del Potro
Winner of each goes to the finals. I expect Nadal and Thiem (as Thiem is #7 in the world and Cecchinato isn't even ranked)
If that happens, we will get to see Nadal go for his 11th French Open title, while he already owns the all-time record for most wins at Roland Garros. Can't help but always root for him.
Will try and add links to the match-ups as soon as they are up. Also post your thoughts on these match-ups before and after. Curious other's take on Halep in particular. And Nadal's legacy at the French Open.
