The Mavericks struck gold when they got Dirk Nowitzi. Its very rare to keep a hall of fame talent on your team from the start to finish of their career. And since he is in the twilight of said career, great as he has always been, the Mavericks around him have been seriously lacking in star power.

Until the 2018 draft. The Mavs land Luka Doncic with the 3rd overall selection and even as a rookie he looks ever bit the part to be able to handily fill Dirk's massive shoes when he leaves. Very Happy It's also interesting to note that the Mavs are basically handing over the reigns from one European superstar to another.

Do you think I'm right that the Mavs finally have a true superstar replacement for Dirk, or is it too early to tell simply because its just his rookie year? I think this conversation/debate will be had and brought up for years to come..

Here's a good vid of ESPN heaping praise on the guy:

It's always so hard to tell if a star rookie is going to play out in the long run. I think Doncic will definitly be a good fit for the Mavs, but I don't know if he'll be able to take the place of Nowitzi. Hopefully he jumps in and starts making some serious plays. The Mavs definitly need a good spark right about now.

Luca looks the part. He needs help though. Seems you can't build a team around 1 superstar anymore, even if you are Lebron, if you want to win. You need 2 superstars. Dirk is amazing but he is about to retire. They need another Luca-like talent or they should be a little afraid of him not staying his whole career in Dallas.

No question Luka is a superstar. Maybe a top 5 player in the league for the next decade. He's easily top 10 right now. Love to watch this guy hit those fall back 3's.
