The Players Championship Odds and Who to Watch

The Players Championship Sawgrass is now upon us! The top golfers in the world are headed to Jacksonville to win the largest purse in golf, a whopping $12.5 million dollars. This is most definitely my favorite tournament, and I'm really looking forward to see the big guys show out.

When you have the top 50 players in the world all competing in one tournament, picking who you think will win can get crazy. To me, the ones to watch out for are pretty standard. We got Tiger woods, Jordan Spieth, Phil Mickelson, Rory Mcllroy, etc. But there looks to be plenty of contenders that can take out the normal front-runners. Guys like Justin Thomas, Xander Schauffele and Tommy Fleetwood, all of which have made plenty of noise leading up to this. I've seen a few people make a convincing point that Justin Thomas has exactly what it takes to win this year, and I agree with them.

So who do you think will win TPC? It would actually be super cool to see Tiger show up and do what we've all just been sitting around waiting for him to do... win. But Tiger's worst enemy is himself, and I don't see that going anywhere any time soon, unfortunately. If I were to play it safe and not bet on Thomas winning, I'd go for Phil Mickelson.

After day 1 you still have Tiger in it, 5 shots back. So that's good to see. And Rory is only 2 shots back. Fleetwood is at the top at -7. But I'm afraid Spieth might not make the day 2 cut. He is at +2 right now. Rough start.

I'm kinda leaning toward Rory for this year. I think it'll be a bunched up finish. But he is playing well after the first 18, and I just have a feeling he can keep it up.

Man, Jon Rahm is playing lights out in this 3rd round. 64 on the day. Pretty amazing. Still liking my Rory prediction. He is right behind him and still has a few holes to possibly tie him or even pass.

Also fun to see Jason Day making a run at it. He is -12 at the moment, just 3 strokes off of Rahm. Looks to be a 4 man race to the finish between these 3 and Fleetwood. Though there are 10 golfers in a bunch just behind them. So who knows. If Rahm can shoot a -8 in a day and shoot up the leaderboard, it really still is anyone's tournament in the top 20.

Rory looks to have this tournament locked up. Beyond that though, check out this putt on 17 by Vegas. It is officially the longest putt on that hole in tournament history:

Watched that live. Was pretty incredible.

Happy for Rory. Didn't know how many more major wins he had left in him. Been since 2014 so good on him. Now he just needs to win at the Masters to pull off the career grand slam. He should be a favorite now.
